We’re trying to make the most of the last few weekends of summer here at Talkhouse. This week is no exception with a weekend playlist courtesy of Ohmme. Parts, Ohmme’s debut LP is out today via Joyful Noise Recordings, and to celebrate the Chicago duo compiled their late night summer driving jams. So if you’re trying to squeeze in one last weekend road trip or just commuting home, give it a listen!

Mark Mothersbaugh — “Ping Island/ Lightning Strike Rescue Op”
This has gotten us through a lot of crazy late night drives. We remember one in particular where there was a giant snowstorm and you couldn’t see 10 feet in front of you. We were on the home stretch and it was three in the morning. We put this on, and it instantly felt like we were in a movie, which made it a lot less stressful.
Lizzo — “Phone”
This is our life on tour: We don’t ever know where our phones are or how we’re supposed to get home because we’re in the middle of Nebraska or something.
Cardi B — “Bickenhead”
This song is so slept on from this Cardi album, but this is our favorite one because we love yelling out the chorus. Perfect for when you need to keep yourself awake.
St. Vincent — “Surgeon”
Best guitar breakdown ever? Yes.
Sheryl Crow — “If It Makes You Happy”
OK, Sheryl Crow is really doing it for us these days. We can think of no better song to just roll down the windows and scream into the abyss. If we’re being honest, we have no idea what the verse lyrics are…
Robert Palmer — “Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley”
Such a classic song. We’ve done an Allen Touissant tribute night the last couple of years and this is always one of our favorites. Robert Palmer does SUCH a good version of it, those backing vocals make the whole thing.
Uni Ika Ai — “Mexico”
Maya’s voice is like butter.
Mitski — “Nobody”
We know this is an audio playlist about driving late at night, but wanted to mention how great this music video is. We love how the chorus is one word, but completely messes with the perception of the whole song by how she places each “nobody.” It’s a great screwed up disco jam to dance to while in the driver’s seat.
The Bambir — “That’s Fine With Us”
The Bambir are an amazing Armenian rock band who are good friends of ours. This song really kicks, especially the grungy guitar tones, and makes you bounce up and down in your seat. And any song where you can yell “Woahhhhh oh oh oh” is gonna keep your eyes open.
Post Animal — “Ralphie”
This chorus makes us feel like we’re going to EXPLODE. We love it so much. This whole album is great, but this is a song we’re always drawn to when we need a pick up.
