Talkhouse Playlist: Leonard Cohen Makes Zipper Club Feel Like Home

The band shares insight into their eclectic influences.

2:10 PM EST on November 15, 2016

Today's playlist comes from Zipper Club, a collaboration between Cerebral Ballzy's Mason James and Lissy Trulie. Both Mason and Lissy's other projects sound vastly different from the new-wave inspired Zipper Club, but their lack of musical inhibition and ability to take inspiration from a variety of genres is apparent in their song choices below. Make sure to catch them on tour, and enjoy!
–Dave Lucas, Talkhouse Marketing Manager

Son Little – "Lay Down"
I fell in love with this guy’s voice.

The Left Banke – "Pretty Ballerina"
One of my favorite old and obscure songs.

Simon & Garfunkel – "The Only Living Boy in New York"
I often feel like I’m the only living boy in New York.

Leonard Cohen – "Chelsea Hotel #2:
Makes Me Feel Like Home.

Blonde Redhead – "In Particular"
This song never ceases to blow me away.

Koudlam – "Sunny Day"
I absolutely love this guy and the song and wish he would come out with something new.

The Go-Betweens – "The Clarke Sisters"
Best lyrics ever.

Ultravox – "Vienna"
One of the earliest songs using synths... and to me it sounds completely timeless.

John Maus – "Believer"
There is nothing I don’t love about this song.

Dan Bodan – "Aaron"
I wish I wrote this song.

Wendy Rene – "After Laughter"
I don’t know, this song is just so good.

Paul Simon – "Run that Body Down"
This song got me through one of the hardest times in my life.

Amy Winehouse – "Me & Mr Jones"
Has some of the best lyrical lines and musical melodies I’ve heard. I just love Amy Winehouse.

Antony and the Johnsons – "Fistful of Love"
One of the most beautiful love songs I’ve ever heard and I love that it has Lou Reed on it.

Trust – "Candy Walls"
Trust is one of my favorite bands. I don’t understand why they aren’t taking over the world. I love this guy’s voice and the synth lines in the songs slay me.

Perfume Genius – "Hood"
This is a song I love to cry to.
