Patrice Rushen — “Haven’t You Heard?”
Such a feel good song. I listen to it every day, the production on it is so crisp and light. Patrice really killed it with this one. She’s one of my favorite producers ever.
Francis and the Lights — “Friends” (ft. Bon Iver)
Unbelievable song. So touching. I hadn’t heard of Francis till Kanye West posted the official video, but this song has been on loop ever since. The way he comes in after the chorus with his introductory “I’m Francis, still dreaming of a glory, something new” and all of the vocal harmonies. Wow. What a way to say hello.
dBridge — “True Romance” (Featuring Vegas)
A drum & bass classic. This will have any rave going crazy and humming the bassline. dBridge is one of the kings of his genre, he never disappoints. This song reminds me of my teenage years, I used to listen to this every day on my way to high school.
Rustie — “Surph”
An outtake from the best electronic album of all time. This man can do no wrong. Surph is so happy, yet so aggressive, an amazing amount of energy. For me, it all comes together at 3:33, when that behemoth of a lead synth ends the track in the best way possible. Glass Swords is an album I will never get tired of.
inc. — “The Place”
This song can make me happy or sad, it has that kind of power. The vocal melody in this is incredible and captures the essence of well-written R&B for me.
Future — “March Madness”
This is one of the best trap songs to ever come out. Say what you want about Future, but the man knows how to write. I can’t tell you what came over me when I heard March Madness for the first time, but it was good. Heard him perform this live and it was one of the most uplifting things I’d ever heard.
Knxwledge — “wntwrk”
Maaaan. This guy’s sampling is next to none. He does no wrong, especially with this beat. He manages to always sample bits of songs that completely destroy my heartstrings, it’s hip-hop to well up to.
Drake — “Summer Sixteen”
It’s summer. It’s 2016. Drake remains one of the best and nobody can tell me otherwise.
Rihanna — “James Joint”
I remember when this suddenly popped up on her website and I was completely floored. I would love to hear Rihanna do more of this ’70s sounding stuff, it suits her voice so well. My favorite song off ANTI.
Hermitude — “Hyperparadise” (Flume Mixtape Version ft. M.O.P)
I love the original remix, but this one just drives me crazy. M.O.P. goes wild and the pitched down vocal cuts take this to a whole new level. There needs to be a longer version Harley!
