Brontez Purnell has been making music since the ‘90s. He started in The Social Lies, a hardcore Afro-punk duo in Alabama in his teens, and later Gravy Train!!!. He then went on to lead his long running project The Younger Lovers and now unveils the Brontez Purnell Trio. Based out of Oakland, CA, Purnell is also a writer, dancer, filmmaker, and choreographer (The Brontez Purnell Dance Company). He is the author of eight critically lauded books, including this year’s Ten Bridges I&#8217;ve Burnt: A Memoir in Verse, Since I Laid My Burden Down, 100 Boyfriends, and more that 
have placed him among the most important writers of his generation.

Introducing: Brontez Purnell Trio’s “Forgive Me, Philip”

While originally conceived as a solo project, MILLY embraced a newfound collaborative approach for Your Own Becoming, something that was only hinted at on 2022’s Eternal Ring. After a few months of painstakingly demoing songs, principal songwriter Brendan Dyer, along with bassist Yarden Erez and drummer Connor Frankel, decamped with producer Sonny DiPerri to East West Studios and Dangerbird’s Recording Studio in Los Angeles. New guitarist Nico Moreta joined the band after recording. Armed with towering, surging guitar riffs, crystalline and inviting hooks, and a newfound collaborative approach, their sophomore LP Your Own Becoming feels like a total reinvention. This album is a document of how doubling down on your art in the face of serious fear and doubt can be grounding. Across 10 pummeling and undeniable songs, Your Own Becoming finds its power in channeling your darkest thoughts into something galvanizing and productive.

Marc starred in the Netflix series Glow and his scripted series, Maron, aired for four seasons on IFC. Martha Skye Murphy’s debut album UM is a record of extraordinary contrasts. She clashes moments of baroque beauty and others of cataclysmic electronic noise, textures that are by turns organic and artificial, hi-fi and lo-fi, and narratives that blur the line between fact and fiction. It consists of field recordings and samples from the wilderness of New Zealand to a storm rolling over Wales, from footsteps on cobblestone to the rumble of a 1968 Chrysler. Collaborations with the likes of pioneering sound artist Roy Montgomery (who provides the aforementioned Chrysler) and Claire Rousay are finely intertwined with rigorous studio sessions with co-producer Ethan P. Flynn, and then again with sparse voice memos of Murphy improvising alone at her piano.
