Sarah Gertrude Shapiro is the co-creator, writer and supervising producer of Lifetime&#8217;s hit drama series UnREAL, based on her SXSW award-winning short film Sequin Raze. UnREAL won the Critics&#8217; Choice Award for Most Exciting New Series, and was called “summer&#8217;s best TV show” by The Daily Beast and “one of the most interesting dramas in recent memory” by Vulture. In 2013, Shapiro was one of eight women chosen for the AFI Directing Workshop for Women.

Filmmakers Talk What They Learned at Sundance and How to Get the Most out of the Festival

Kat Candler&#8216;s award-winning short films Hellion and Black Metal have screened at Sundance, SXSW, Los Angeles Film Festival, and many more. Her feature film, Hellion starring Aaron Paul and Juliette Lewis, premiered in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and was released theatrically by IFC Films. Hellion was a Sundance Creative Producing Lab participant and San Francisco Film Society/Kenneth Rainin Foundation Grant recipient, and Candler received the same grant for her upcoming Untitled Metal Feature script.

Alex Cox is an English writer-director whose films include Repo Man, Sid and Nancy, Walker, Highway Patrolman and Three Businessmen. Between 1987 and 1994, he was the host of the BBC series Moviedrome. He is currently working on a multi-perspective film about the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, <a href="https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/tombstone-rashomon-directed-by-alex-cox#/" target="_blank">Tombstone Rashomon</a>.

A winner of the MacArthur Genius Grant, she is also a Distinguished Professor in the Film And Media Studies Department at the University of California Santa Barbara.

Amy Berg is a critically acclaimed, Emmy-award winning and Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her 2006 documentary Deliver Us From Evil and went on to direct West of Memphis (2012), a documentary about the failure of the justice system in the West Memphis Three case. Amy&#8217;s first narrative feature, Every Secret Thing, was released theatrically in May 2015 and her doc, Prophet’s Prey will open in theatres this fall. Amy’s company, Disarming Films, produces long-form documentaries focusing on social justice.

David Dastmalchian’s latest film <a href="http://www.samuelgoldwynfilms.com/all-creatures-here-below/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">All Creatures Here Below</a>, which he both wrote and stars in with Karen Gillan, is in theaters from May 17 through Samuel Goldwyn Films. The film is his second collaboration with director Collin Schiffli; Dastmalchian won a Special Jury Prize for Courage in Storytelling at SXSW 2014 for their previous film, Animals, which he also wrote and acted in. Dastmalchian made his feature acting debut in Christopher Nolan&#8217;s The Dark Knight and has been a regular in Denis Villeneuve&#8217;s films, including Prisoners, Blade Runner 2049 and the upcoming Dune. He played Kurt in Marvel Studios&#8217; Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp, and on TV appeared as Murdoc in MacGyver and Pit Boss Warrack in Twin Peaks: The Return.

A.O. Scott also voted Funny Ha Ha one of the Ten Most Influential Films of the &#8217;00s. Between projects, Andrew has also worked as a screenwriter-for-hire and a teacher of film production at Boston University and the University of Texas. The Boston Globe describes him as &#8220;unerringly polite and somewhat disheveled.&#8221;
