Katie Aselton’s latest film as writer-director-actor,<a href="https://magichourmovie.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Magic Hour</a>, also starring Daveed Diggs, is in theaters now through Greenwich Entertainment. Aselton’s breakout acting role was in the indie hit The Puffy Chair, directed by Mark and Jay Duplass, and she is known for her starring role as Jenny in the FX comedy series The League. Aselton previously directed the films The Freebie, in which she also stars alongside Dax Shepard; the survivor thriller Black Rock, starring opposite Kate Bosworth and Lake Bell; and the comedy Mack &amp; Rita, with Diane Keaton. As an actor, her TV credits include Legion, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Veep and The Office, and her film credits include Old Dads, Book Club, Bombshell, Father Figures and the acclaimed horror/sci-fi films She Dies Tomorrow and Synchronic. (Photo by Annie McElwain.)

Three Great Things: Katie Aselton

Multi-award-winning actress Essie Davis currently stars in <a href="https://filmrise.com/film/the-justice-of-bunny-king" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Justice of Bunny King</a>, opposite Thomasin McKenzie, which is out now in theaters through FilmRise. She is best known for her acclaimed performance in The Babadook, her key role of Lady Crane in Game of Thrones and playing the title character in Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. She recently appeared in True History of the Kelly Gang alongside Russell Crowe and Nicholas Hoult, directed by her husband, Justin Kurzel, and her further film roles include Baz Luhrmann’s Australia, the Wachowskis’ The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, and Girl with a Pearl Earring. An established stage actress, in 2003, Davis won the Laurence Olivier Award for her performance in Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire at the National Theatre London and in 2004 she starred in a National Theatre, West End and Broadway production of Tom Stoppard’s Jumpers, for which she earned a Tony Award nomination. Wes Studi, who is currently starring opposite Dale Dickey in the light romantic drama <a href="https://bleeckerstreetmedia.com/a-love-song" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A Love Song</a>, has seen his career journey take him from small-town Oklahoma native to internationally acclaimed actor and musician. Studi credits his passion and multifaceted background for powerful character portrayals that forever changed a Hollywood stereotype. Drawing from his rich life experience, Studi moved audiences with unforgettable performances in Dances with Wolves, The Last of the Mohicans, Geronimo: An American Legend, Heat, Avatar, Being Flynn and Hostiles. Breaking new ground, he brought fully developed Native American characters to the screen, and then took his craft a step further by highlighting the success of Native Americans in nontraditional roles. In 2019, Studi received the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Governors Award, an Oscar® statuette given to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement.

She is best known for her role opposite Brad Pitt in World War Z and for her acclaimed role as Detective Sarah Linden on The Killing. Her other TV credits include Good Omens, opposite Jon Hamm, Michael Sheen and David Tennant, Shonda Rhimes’ The Catch, and HBO’s Big Love, in which she played the breakthrough double role of twins JoDean and Kathy Marquart. Her film work includes the Blumhouse-produced The Lie, opposite Peter Sarsgaard and Joey King, Gangster Squad opposite Josh Brolin, the thriller Never Here, opposite the late Sam Shepard, and Atom Egoyan’s The Captive, starring Ryan Reynolds. She was Tony nominated for her role in the Broadway revival of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, opposite Bill Irwin and Kathleen Turner. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her family.
