Garret Price is a Los Angeles–based filmmaker who received his MFA from the American Film Institute. As an editor, he cut the feature films The Director and the Jedi, Janis: Little Girl Blue, and About Alex, along with the drama series Nashville. He is currently editing Drake Doremus&#8217;s new film. Love, Antosha his directorial debut, is released in select theaters on August 2.

Since opening his studio in New York City in 1983, photographer Stephen Wilkes has built an unprecedented body of work and a reputation as one of America’s most iconic photographers, widely recognized for his fine art, editorial and commercial work. Wilkes directorial debut, the documentary film, <a href="http://jaymyself.oscilloscope.net/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jay Myself</a>, world premiered to a sold out crowd at DOCNYC November 11, 2018. The film, an in-depth look into the world of photographer Jay Maisel and his move out of his 35,000 sq. foot building at 190 Bowery, opens in select theaters through Oscilloscope from July 31. Rachel Boynton is an award-winning producer and director, known for getting access to places no one has filmed before. Her latest feature, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/CivilWarDocFilm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Civil War (or, Who Do We Think We Are)</a>, launches in select theaters on September 17. Her previous films, Our Brand is Crisis and Big Men, have won the IDA’s Best Feature Documentary Award, and have been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and multiple News and Documentary Emmys, including Best Documentary. Maxine Trump’s most recent feature documentary is <a href="https://www.tokidornottokid.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">To Kid or Not to Kid</a>, a film about the choice to live childfree, which premiered at DOC NYC 2018. Maxine&#8217;s previous feature documentary, Musicwood, was a New York Times Critics&#8217; Pick, a festival award-winner and played in theaters, on airlines and TV networks around the world. Maxine has directed both long and short documentaries for the TV networks Discovery, TNT, Sundance Channel, BBC, TLC, etc.and has won BDA awards for work on numerous commercial projects for TV and agency clients, including National Geographic, PBS, Comedy Central and Oreos. Maxine is also the author of the book The Documentary Filmmaker’s Roadmap, published by Focal Press in 2018; and a teacher of documentary filmmaking at the New York Film Academy. She lives in Brooklyn.

Jacob Feiring is a director and producer living in Brooklyn, New York, until AI&#8217;s replace him with something better. He is an alumnus of Kartemquin Film Labs, and a recipient of the Robert Flaherty Seminar Fellowship. His first feature film, <a href="http://acrocatsmovie.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Acrocats!</a>, had its New York Premiere at the IFC Center as part of DOC NYC and screened at festivals and theaters around the world, including Big Sky Film Festival and the Gene Siskel Film Center. Acrocats! is distributed by Gravitas Ventures and available on VOD.

Timothy Greenfield-Sanders’ latest film, <a href="https://www.tonimorrisonfilm.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am</a>, is in theaters from June 21 through Magnolia Pictures. Greenfield-Sanders has achieved critical acclaim photographing world leaders and major cultural figures, including presidents, writers, artists, actors, and musicians and His photographs are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the National Portrait Gallery, the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Brooklyn Museum and many more. Greenfield-Sanders has produced and directed 13 documentary films including Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart, The Black List, The Latino List, The Out List, About Face: Supermodels Then and Now, The Boomer List, The Women’s List, and The Trans List. He won a Grammy for Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart and an NAACP Image Award for The Black List. Greenfield-Sanders’ numerous books have been published by Bulfinch, Atria, Luxury and Powerhouse. He received his B.A. from Columbia University and his M.F.A. from The American Film Institute.

On My Nearly 40-Year Friendship with Toni Morrison

Gene Graham is an award-winning filmmaker with over 15 years of indie film, agency and broadcast experience. In theaters from June 7, his latest documentary, <a href="https://determinedpictures.com/project/ladies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">This One&#8217;s for the Ladies</a>, is a hilarious, thought provoking roller-coaster that won a Special Jury Award at South By Southwest 2018. The Ladies also got picked up for distribution by Neon. His directorial debut, The Godfather of Disco, won Jury &amp; Audience Awards for Best Documentary at the Fire Island Film &amp; Video Festival and an Emerging Filmmaker Award at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival. In 2006 Gene edited and was associate producer on Dirty Laundry, directed by Maurice Jamal, which won the Audience Award for Best U.S. Feature and Best Performance by an Actor (Loretta Devine) at the American Black Film Festival. He lives in Brooklyn.

Learning the Hard Way

Marcus Lindeen’s latest film, <a href="http://pictures.metrograph.com/in-theaters/the-raft" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Raft</a>, opens in theaters on June 7. He made his debut with documentary feature Regretters, which won the prestigious Prix Europa for Best European Documentary in Berlin, the Swedish Academy Awards (Guldbagge) and the Swedish Emmy for Best Documentary in 2011. His second film, the fiction feature Glorious Accidents, premiered at the Venice Film Festival, winning the prize for Best Medium-Length film. Lindeen’s theatre work has been produced and presented at Sweden’s National Theatre (Dramaten), The National Theatre in Oslo and The Schaubühne in Berlin. In January 2017 he exhibited the art installation The Acali Experiment at Centre Pompidou in Paris. The installation was also presented as part of the CPH:DOX film festival in Copenhagen, where The Raft premiered in 2018, winning the main award of the festival. Since then, the film screened in festivals like IDFA, BFI London, Sao Paolo, Zürich, Melbourne, and Full Frame Documentary Film Festival.

Erik Nelson is the director of <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tmwm4VPW7RY" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Cold Blue</a>, which airs on HBO on June 6, and the 2017 documentary A Gray State. He is the producer of Werner Herzog&#8217;s award-winning documentaries Grizzly Man, Encounters at the End of the World, Into the Abyss and Cave of Forgotten Dreams. When Hernan Barangan was 15 years old he was diagnosed with Leukemia &#8211; and he beat it. His professional path emerged during the long months undergoing treatment, as he fell in love with cinema. Barangan has since worked on numerous music videos and commercials, as well as produced various multimedia films, including 3 Apartments, a technically and creatively challenging triptych installation film. Returning to the origins of his career, Barangan turned the camera back on cancer itself. The resulting feature film, Cancer Rebellion, follows as he travels to all 50 states, conducting nearly 100 interviews with young cancer fighters. Executive Produced by Roger Daltrey of The Who, <a href="http://www.cancerrebellion.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cancer Rebellion</a> is now available to pre-order on Amazon and iTunes. He is also currently attached as writer-director on a provocative feature film dramedy titled Something’s Fishy with Springbok Entertainment.
