Jasmine Batchelor plays Jess in Jeremy Hersh’s <a href="https://www.monumentreleasing.com/the-surrogate-theatrical" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Surrogate</a>, and is also an Associate Producer on the film, which is released by Monument Releasing on June 12. She is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Atlanta, Georgia. After discovering a love for acting in high school, Jasmine went on to study acting at Wright State University and The Juilliard School. Recent television credits include New Amsterdam, NCIS: New Orleans, The Good Fight, The Affair, Law &amp; Order: SVU and Miss 2059. In addition to film and television, Jasmine’s recent theater credits include projects at Manhattan Theatre Club, The Playwrights Realm, The Public Theater, Two River Theater, and Baltimore Center Stage. In his December 2019 New York Times review of Measure For Measure at the Public Theater, Jose Solís wrote, “Batchelor, whose expressive face recalls the oft-doomed heroines played by Lillian Gish, turns in an Isabella for the ages.”

Say Her Name

Yrsa Daley-Ward is a writer, actor, and model best known for her online presence, and talks at global speaking events including TEDx. Yrsa was raised in the North of England and now lives and works in New York. In her writing, Yrsa tackles issues dealing with all parts of the human condition, particularly those ‘we don’t tend to speak of,’ including issues of social awareness such as mental health, sexuality, love, grief, and addiction. She explores these themes in her debut collection of poetry, <a href="https://www.amazon.com/bone-Yrsa-Daley-Ward/dp/014313261X" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bone</a>, and her autobiographical novel <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Terrible-Storytellers-Memoir-Yrsa-Daley-Ward/dp/0143132628/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Terrible</a>.

Yrsa Daley-Ward Reads Her New Poem “Making The End”

Sabaah Folayan, the writer-director-producer of Whose Streets?, is an activist and storyteller born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. As an advocate at Rikers Island, Folayan interviewed incarcerated people about their experiences with trauma. She later helped organize The Millions March, one of the largest marches for racial justice in New York history, in response to the non-indictment of the police officer who choked Eric Garner to death. Folayan entered the world of storytelling through theater, attending the Lee Strasberg Institute of Theatre and Film as a teenager, and performing as a member of the Black Theater Ensemble while a pre-med student at Columbia University. In September 2014, she went to Ferguson with cinematographer Lucas Alvarado-Farrar to learn the truth behind the dramatic scenes playing out on the news. Hearing the stories from the community inspired her to embark on her directorial debut Whose Streets?, landing her a coveted spot on Filmmaker magazine’s annual “25 New Faces of Independent Film” along with co-director Damon Davis. The film world premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews and was released this summer by Magnolia Pictures.

13th Gives America a Much-Needed History Lesson

David Felix Sutcliffe co-directed with acclaimed photojournalist Lyric R. Cabral the documentary <a href="http://terrordocumentary.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">(T)ERROR</a>, which marks the first time that filmmakers have had access to an active FBI informant in a domestic counterterrorism investigation. The film premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, where it won a Special Jury Prize for Breakout First Feature. Sutcliffe&#8217;s first film, Adama, an hour-long documentary about a 16-year-old Muslim girl from Harlem arrested by the FBI on suspicion of being a “potential suicide bomber,” aired on PBS in 2011. In 2013, he was included in Filmmaker magazine&#8217;s annual list of &#8220;25 New Faces of Independent Film.&#8221;
