Neill Blomkamp’s new film as writer-director, the horror movie <a href="https://www.ifcfilms.com/films/demonic" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Demonic</a>, is out August 20 through IFC Midnight. He moved to Canada from his native South African at the age of 18, beginning his career as a visual effects artist in film and television. He is best known as the co-writer and director of District 9 (2009), Elysium (2013) and Chappie (2015). Since 2015 he has been developing experimental films for his independent company Oats Studios, including most notably, Rakka (2017), Firebase (2017) and Zygote (2017).

Carlos Reygadas is a Mexican film director, writer and producer whose latest film, <a href="https://www.monumentreleasing.com/our-time" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Our Time</a> (Nuestro Tiempo) is currently in theaters through Monument Releasing. He studied law in Mexico City and later specialized in armed conflict law and the use of force in London. After quitting the Mexican foreign service, he made four short films in Belgium before filming Japón, which was presented at the Rotterdam and the Cannes Film Festivals in 2002, where it received a special mention for the Camera d&#8217;Or. In 2005, Reygadas premiered at the Cannes Film Festival his second film, Battle in Heaven, in competition. Also at Cannes, he was awarded the Jury Prize in 2007 for Silent Light and the Best Director award for Post Tenebras Lux in 2012.

Eoin French is the Irish artist better known as Talos. While Talos will always be deeply connected to his native Ireland, his stunning sophomore album, Far Out Dust, draws on a far wider perspective, melding tracks written and recorded in New York, Los Angeles, London, Dublin, Cork, and Reykjavik. The influence of the unknown runs deep here, invigorating French’s haunting blend of organic and electronic music with a gorgeous sense of discovery and wonder. But where Talos’ acclaimed debut, Wild Alee, was a solitary affair about isolation and escape, Far Out Dust finds French actually embarking on his long-imagined journeys, drawing strength and comfort from lived experience and deep human connection. The result is both his most ambitious songwriting and most sophisticated studio work, a collection that absolutely radiates creative confidence even as it wrestles with the pain of doubt and regret.
