Mamalarky is down to water your houseplants while you&#8217;re out of town and plot an elaborate revenge on your high school bully. Mamalarky could very well be the cure for depression or the cause of all universal sadness. Mamalarky is a campfire song for American Idol rejects and a somber soundtrack for the months leading up to your next breakup. They are exactly what you would expect to see in an increasingly sentient robot&#8217;s dream journal.
Mamalarky started in Austin, TX and now resides in Atlanta, GA. The band combines doe-eyed vocal melodies, cerebral keys, dynamic finger-picked guitar, ebullient bass lines, and hard hitting drums to create an intoxicating elixir, entirely their own.
Their self-titled debut album Mamalarky is out November 2020 via Fire Talk Records.

Best of 2020: Mamalarky Talks Ginger Root’s New Album (and His TikTok)

Lucy Lord Campana is an artist whose observational based painting practice explores the limits of our collective vision. She is interested in how the boundaries of scientific technology are being pushed dramatically; both in seeing outward into space and inward through the microscopic field of metamaterials. Recent projects include images from the Hubble Space Telescope, a series around X-ray use in diamond mining, and methane detection with infrared technology.

Campana holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Columbia University. She teaches painting and drawing at Columbia University and Drew University.

Ani Ivory-Block, Lily Konigsberg, and Nina Ryser met while attending Bard College and formed Palberta in 2013. My Pal Berta (2013) and Shitheads in the Ditch (2014) were both released by Feeding Tube Records. Bye Bye Berta (2016) was their first album for Wharf Cat Records and it was followed by 2018’s Roach Goin’ Down, both recorded by Paco Cathcart (The Cradle). These albums were surrounded by a slew of EPs and split releases as well as frequent touring of the United States and Canada. Palberta opened for Bikini Kill at Brooklyn Steel in 2019 and were set to tour the UK and Europe for the first time in April of 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Their fifth album, Palberta5000, was preceded by the stand-alone single “Something in the Way” and will be released on January 22, 2021. When they can safely do so, they look forward to touring the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe.

Do You Believe in Life After the Cher Dance Party?

On March 3, Nathaniel Rateliff kicked off his sold-out &#8220;And It’s Still Alright Tour&#8221; — which marked a nine month continued run. Nine days later on March 12 the rest of the tour was canceled when the pandemic hit. After months of virtual shows and livestreams, Rateliff performed five socially distanced shows at Colorado’s renowned Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The Marigold Project is Rateliff&#8217;s foundation dedicated to economic, racial and social justice. All funds raised through the Red Rocks were distributed to organizations working in Colorado to propel their mission forward. Earlier this year, Rateliff released his latest solo album, And It’s Still Alright, on Stax Records.

Best of 2020: Nathaniel Rateliff Talks Tyler Childers’s Long Violent History

Kate Teague claims she’s not a poet. “I’m just trying to be as real as possible,” Teague says from Oxford, Mississippi. When you’re making a name for yourself writing and performing songs in William Faulkner’s hometown, it may be a healthy distinction. It’s also not entirely true. Teague does draw from her own life and from those close to her. She mines lived experience ranging from heartbreak to misread body language to misogyny for honest, concise reflection. At 27, to quote another Southern writer, she’s made of wise blood. It runs through all these songs. “My songs are like journal entries,” Teague says of the six tracks that make up her debut self-titled EP, which was recorded at Memphis’ Delta Sonic by veteran producer Clay Jones. “And I rarely filter myself.” But, tethered to silky melodies, those sharply observed, plainspoken verses belie the daydream cadences, the lush arrangements, and Teague’s clear, graceful voice in ways that do verge on the poetic.

U.S. Girls is Meg Remy’s musical moniker. The Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist&#8217;s music traces a circuitous evolution. It encompasses unconventional, challenging sound work as prominently as her vocally-driven explorations of American pop mores (often on the same album). Since 2007, Remy has toured several times in Europe, Eastern Canada and the United States. She accompanies her hugely distinctive voice with innovative set-ups, including combinations of reel-to-reel players, tape decks, and samplers, as well as occasionally singing with a full band. Remy has released a clutch of original records on labels as diverse as Siltbreeze, Kraak, FatCat and her own Calico Corp. imprint.
Her latest album Heavy Light was released in March 2020 via 4AD.
