Aaron Schimberg&#8216;s latest film as writer-director, <a href="https://www.kinolorber.com/film/chained-for-life" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chained for Life</a>, starring Adam Pearson and Jess Weixler, is in select theaters from September 11 through Kino Lorber. His debut feature Go Down Death (2013) was called “an astonishing out-of-nowhere film” by Filmmaker magazine and “a stunning midnight movie in the tradition of Jodorowsky and The Saragossa Manuscript” by The Dissolve. He has received grants and fellowships from Cinereach, New York Film Festival Artist Academy, Frontiéres and the IFP Labs. Chained for Life is his second feature film.

Karen Gillan is a Scottish actor, writer and director best known for her roles as Amy Pond in Doctor Who and Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War and the forthcoming Avengers: Endgame. She also plays Martha in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and its as-yet-untitled sequel. She has written and directed a number of shorts, and made her feature debut with the 2018 film The Party&#8217;s Just Beginning, in which she also played the lead role.

&#8220;We met 11 years ago as competitors on On the Lot, Steven Spielberg’s reality show search for up-and-coming filmmakers. We made a new short film every week and lived together for a summer, sequestered in a bungalow on a studio lot in Los Angeles.
Out of the 12,000 filmmakers who started the competition, we both finished in the top 5 but short of the prize. But we won something better than the competition: a lasting friendship and collaboration. Over the years we’ve directed digital and TV projects, most recently the live-action version of Disney’s Kim Possible.
Freaks is our first feature film, and the first project that we’ve written. As a result, it’s the most personal and artistic expression of who we are as filmmakers.”

Chris Osborn is a filmmaker, writer, and curator based in Brooklyn. <a href="https://vimeo.com/312021733" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://vimeo.com/312021733">True Blue</a>, Osborn&#8217;s latest short, screened at festivals across North America, and won the Audience Award at Indie Memphis in 2017. As a curator, Osborn served as a guest programmer at the 2019 International Film Festival Rotterdam, and hosts <a href="http://www.memory.is/deep" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="http://www.memory.is/deep">D E E P</a>, a theatrical and web screening series of experimental shorts unearthed from the darker side of the internet.

Jack Dunphy is a filmmaker, animator, actor and writer from Chicago whose short films Serenity and Chekhov have played at Sundance, AFI and festivals around the world. His latest short, Bob&#8217;s Funeral, won Best Nonfiction Short Film at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. His new podcast, Revelations with Jack Dunphy, premieres on October 15. His short film Revelations premiered at Slamdance and went on to play the Champs-Élysées Film Festival in Paris, France. His short film Brontosaurus played the True/False, Nashville, Florida, Philadelphia and Cucalorus film festivals. He starred in Assholes (directed by Peter Vack) which won the audience award at SXSW. He co-wrote Stinking Heaven, which premiered at the International Festival of Rotterdam, with Nathan Silver, and wrote, edited and produced Silver’s The Great Pretender, which played Tribeca, AFI and festivals around the world. Revisited: The Importance of Bad Santa in the Wake of a Friend’s Death

Alexandra McGuinness’ second film as writer/director, She’s Missing, starring Lucy Fry, Eiza Gonzalez, Josh Hartnett and Sheila Vand, is in select theaters through Vertical Entertainment from December 20. Born in Dublin, Ireland, McGuinness graduated from the London Film School in 2010 where her graduation film, She Owns Eve-erything – based on a short story by Anne Enright – was chosen to represent her graduating class. Her debut feature film, Lotus Eaters, premiered at the TriBeCa Film Festival, and was released theatrically by Pathe, Curzon and Phase 4. She created, wrote and directed the Super Deluxe web series Riders, which is now being developed as a half-hour show for Sundance Now to be written, directed and executive produced by Alexandra. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband Blake Berris and their young son.

Remembering Anna Karina

Peter Strickland started making short films on Super 8 and 16 mm in the early &#8217;90s. After directing his adaptation of Kafka&#8217;s Metamorphosis for Reading&#8217;s Progress Theatre in 1992, he went on to direct a short film called Bubblegum (starring Warhol superstar Holly Woodlawn). After a long hiatus, making culinary soundscapes with The Sonic Catering Band, he returned to film in the early part of this century. His first feature film, Katalin Varga (starring Hilda Péter) was funded from an inheritance and shot and edited on a budget of £25,000. The Transylvanian tragedy led to funding from the British film industry. He made the Milano-Dorking sonic anguish of Berberian Sound Studio (starring Toby Jones) followed in 2012, followed by the dominant/submissive romance The Duke of Burgundy (starring Sidse Babett Knudsen). In the past few years, he has made several radio plays and a concert film for Björk, co-directed with Nick Fenton, and his fourth feature, the Thames Valley January Sales nightmare In Fabric (starring Marianne Jean-Baptiste).
