Joe Dante is a lifelong film buff who turned his obsession into a career. He got his start cutting trailers for Roger Corman and later directed the hit movie Gremlins, as well as Gremlins 2: The New Batch, for producer Steven Spielberg. His feature films include The Howling, Innerspace, Matinee, Small Soldiers, The ‘burbs, The Hole and the zom-com Burying the Ex. His TV directing work includes the HBO film The Second Civil War, the Masters of Horrors titles, episodes of Eerie, Indiana (which he helped create), CSI: NY, Hawaii 5-0 and Salem.

For Ben York Jones, it’s all about character. As a screenwriter, his feature writing credits include the 2011 Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Like Crazy, Breathe In and the forthcoming WWII drama Ashes in the Snow. As an actor he can be seen in the Emmy- and Cannes Lion-winning web series The Beauty Inside, the 2010 Sundance Competition film Douchebag, and the short film Safety. Golden Globe winner Victor Levin has written for numerous TV shows, including Mad Men, The Larry Sanders Show, Dream On, and Mad About You, where he penned some of the show&#8217;s most memorable episodes and ran the show in its final two seasons. His screenwriting work includes Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!, Then She Found Me (co-written with Helen Hunt and Alice Arlen) and the U.S. remake of My Sassy Girl. His feature directorial, 5 to 7, a romance with comedy for grown-ups, opens on April 3 in New York and Los Angeles and then expands to other cities and countries.

Talkhouse Film Contributors Remember Anton Yelchin

Kris Rey began her film career studying documentary film production at Southern Illinois University. Using naturalistic techniques and often working with non-actors, she went on to focus her career in narrative film. Her first feature, It was great, but I was ready to come home, played in competition at SXSW in 2009, was followed by Empire Builder (2012) and the short film Baby Mary (2014). Her third feature, Unexpected, starring Cobie Smulders and Anders Holm, premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and will be distributed later this year by the Film Arcade.
