Jeffrey Paul King&rsquo;s writing career began at the age of 20, when his first play was picked up for a run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He relocated to Los Angeles soon thereafter, and was accepted into UCLA&rsquo;s prestigious MFA Screenwriting Program. Upon graduating, he was hired on CBS&#8217; Sherlock Holmes adaptation, Elementary, where he served as a writer/producer for all seven seasons of the show. Most recently, he created The Republic of Sarah for CBS Studios and the CW, and now serves as its showrunner. In his spare time, he&#8217;s been a professional opera singer, a published cartographer, a roller derby mascot, and a sideline reporter for Major League Soccer.

The Redemptive Genius of Jackass

Named one of Variety’s Top 10 Documentary Filmmakers to Watch, Emmy-nominated filmmaker Derek Doneen made his feature documentary directing debut in 2018 with The Price of Free, about Nobel Peace Prize-winning Indian activist Kailash Satyarthi, which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. Doneen’s new project, Heist, a serialized anthology docuseries that tells real heist stories from the perspective of the people who pulled them off, debuts on Netflix on July 14. Previously, Doneen edited Kobe Bryant’s Muse and co-directed the opening segment for U2: iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE: Live in Paris, alongside his mentor Davis Guggenheim, who he met while creating ancillary content for Waiting for Superman. Doneen produced Shot in the Dark alongside Chance the Rapper and Dwyane Wade, and edited and produced the documentary What Haunts Us with Frank Marshall. Lou Taylor Pucci currently stars in Apple TV’s new series Physical as Tyler, a videographer with a background in porn who ends up directing protagonist Rose Byrne’s aerobics video. Pucci emerged as one of the most promising young actors of his generation with award-winning performance in Mike Mills&#8217; 2005 film Thumbsucker, and his other notable film credits include Rebecca Miller&#8217;s Personal Velocity (his first feature), the horror reboot Evil Dead, Beginners (re-teaming with Mike Mills) and Richard Linklater&#8217;s Fast Food Nation. On TV, he’s had memorable recurring roles on American Horror Story, You&#8217;re The Worst and as tortured hipster Benji in Netflix’s You. Pucci grew up in central New Jersey and had little interest in acting until his aunt bribed him to try out for community theater at age 10; Two years later, he appeared on Broadway as Friedrich in The Sound of Music.

Natalie Morales is an actor, director, writer, and activist. Natalie made her solo directorial debut with the teen road-trip comedy Plan B, which premieres on Hulu May 28, and co-directed Language Lessons with Mark Duplass, which won the audience award at this year’s SXSW and will hit theaters this fall. Natalie recently starred alongside Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini in the Netflix series, Dead to Me, lent her voice to the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and starred in the action comedy Stuber, alongside Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani. She starred in NBC’s Abby’s as the titular character, and recurred on The Newsroom, Girls, Parks &amp; Recreation and Santa Clarita Diet. She also created, directed and stars in the Funny or Die series James Joyce’s Love Letters and recently directed two episodes of HBO’s Duplass Brothers anthology, Room 104. Actress Inbar Lavi is best known for her roles on Bravo’s Imposters and Fox’s Prison Break. She is currently starring as Eve in Lucifer; Part B of the show’s fifth season premieres on Netflix on May 28. During quarantine, Inbar created the brand Lavi, with all proceeds going to female-owned business hit hard by the pandemic. Inbar is also an ambassador of The Los Angeles Children’s Hospital and The Make-a-Wish Israel Foundation and volunteers at Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles, a community-run Kosher kitchen that brings people together to assist the less fortunate. Frankie Latina is an Italian-American independent writer-director born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who began using his uncle Dave&#8217;s Super 8mm camera to make movies when he was a teenager. He studied film at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he learned how to make 16mm movies, and made his feature debut in 2009 with Modus Operandi. It was released theatrically by Kino Lorber in 2010 and is now available on VOD. <a href="http://www.frankielatina.com/" target="_blank">Latina</a> is currently making his second feature, Snapshot.

Second Screen: Best TV Shows of 2020

Bryan Fogel’s latest documentary, <a href="https://thedissident.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Dissident</a>, about the shocking murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, is in select theaters on December 25 and available on demand on January 8 through Briarcliff Entertainment. For his previous film, Icarus, Fogel won the Academy Award for Best Documentary and the Edward R. Murrow Award for Best News Documentary, and was also nominated for a BAFTA Award, three Emmys and the DGA Award for Best Direction. Fogel began his career pursuing stand-up comedy and acting. He developed, co-wrote, and starred in the Off-Broadway comedy Jewtopia and directed the feature film adaptation.

Shannon Plumb has shot over 200 short films, which have been exhibited in museums, galleries, and on international screens. She started by shooting herself as various characters, acting out three-minute situations using humor and silence as her vehicles for storytelling. In 2013, her first feature film, Towheads, premiered at MoMA as part of New Directors / New Films; it is now streaming on the <a href="https://www.criterionchannel.com/towheads" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Criterion Channel</a>. Revisited: Derek Cianfrance in Quarantine Finishing I Know This Much Is True

John Patrick Shanley’s latest film as writer-director, <a href="https://bleeckerstreetmedia.com/wild-mountain-thyme/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wild Mountain Thyme</a> starring Emily Blunt, Jamie Dornan, Jon Hamm and Christopher Walken, is out now through Bleecker Street Films. Shanley won both a WGA Award and an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Moonstruck and received both the Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize for his play Doubt. In the arena of screenwriting, he has nine films to his credit, most recently the adaptation of Doubt starring Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams and Viola Davis. The film, which Shanley also directed, was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay. His other film credits include Five Corners (Special Jury Prize, Barcelona Film Festival), Alive and Joe Versus the Volcano (which he also directed).
