Andrew Thomas Huang is a visual artist, writer and director who crafts hybrid fantasy worlds and mythical dreamscapes. Known for his Grammy nominated music videos of Björk, FKA twigs and Thom Yorke, Huang is also recognized as a writer and directer of narrative film. His work has been commissioned by and exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Sydney Opera House and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. Inspired by his queer Chinese heritage, Huang’s work mines the unconscious realms to blend technology, mysticism, future folklore and queer spirituality.

Comprised of filmmakers Alex Lee and Kyle Wightman, BRTHR mashes up vibrant pop culture with an infectious, unique, energetic style, integrating cinematic moments with visual effects, 3D and distinctive editing. Already a formidable force with a prolific reel and growing body of work, BRTHR has directed acclaimed music videos for Travis Scott, the Weeknd, Iggy Azalea, Miley Cyrus and Charli XCX, among others. Their visual style and scope of filmmaking is further enhanced by their abilities off camera, with the majority of their work having been shot, edited, colored and animated by their own hands.

Emily Kai Bock is a Canadian filmmaker based in Los Angeles. She has written, directed and edited music videos for bands such as Arcade Fire, Grimes, Solange, Lorde and Grizzly Bear. Her video for Arcade Fire’s single “Afterlife” won the Prism Prize for Best Canadian Music Video and a UKMVA for Best International Alternative video. Her short documentary Spit Gold Under an Empire screened at Sundance 2013 and on Sundance TV. In 2017, her short film, A Funeral for Lightning, premiered at Toronto International Film Festival, where it was selected by TIFF as one of Canada’s Top 10 Short Films of the year. It went on to win the Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Short Film at the LA Film Festival. She is currently completing another narrative short film and prepping her debut feature film.t

Matt Stawski is a Grammy-nominated filmmaker who has directed music videos for Train, Cee Lo Green, Fifth Harmony, Fall Out Boy, the Wanted, Ne-Yo, Paramore and Snoop Dogg, among others. His debut feature, Blue’s Big City Adventure, is streaming on Paramount+ from November 18. He’s also directed pilots for AwesomenessTV and Nickelodeon. Prior to going into production on Blue’s Big City Adventure, he sold an original musical horror film titled Monster Mash to Universal Pictures, which is currently in development. How Did I Get Here?

Kevin Basko released more albums in 2019 than most artists do in their entire career. The New Jersey indie rocker released handfuls of records in the first seven years under the moniker Rubber Band Gun — not to mention producing, engineering, and performing with everyone from Eric Slick to the Lemon Twigs. But when Basko’s friend and collaborator Jonathan Rado of Foxygen quipped that he should release 25 albums in a single year, the Rubber Band Gun 25 sprang to life. And at the heart of that diverse collection of records is Cashes Out, a record that not only stands as the first vinyl release for the project, but also showcases the dazzling and dizzying heights that Rubber Band Gun psych-tinged bedroom rock can reach.

Introducing: Tré Burt’s “Dixie Red”

Writer-director-producer Sarah Pirozek is an award-winning filmmaker with a fine arts background. Her debut narrative feature, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/hashtagLIKEthefeaturefilm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">#Like</a>, a feminist thriller that explores cyberstalking and feminine revenge, is on VOD from January 26. She has directed TV commercials, music videos, broadcast TV and Web content for the Sundance Channel, MTV, VH1, PBS, HBO, Nat Geo, AMC, Discovery Channel, BBC and Channel Four. Other projects include producing the ground-breaking indie feature and trans love story Flora, directing the theatrically distributed feature documentary Free Tibet, made with the Beastie Boys. Pirozek has worked with talent as disparate as Björk, Billy Crudup, Bokeem Woodbine, the White Stripes, A Tribe Called Quest, Lance Accord, Queen Latifah and Spike Jonze. That&#8217;s the idea behind Kate Hollowell&#8216;s solo project, a strange new blend of pop with a hint of comedy and an undeniably danceable sound. Hollowell is also the lead singer of irreverent LA punk band Slut Island, and has directed music videos for various artists, including SASAMI and Katy Perry.

With his wonderful new album Stardust, Luka Kuplowsky makes a refreshing argument for the relevance of acoustic music as a place to hold thought; an open space to place impeccably chosen words, ideas and images. A young songwriter with a calm, conversational delivery and an effortless, un-showy grasp of poetry; Kuplowsky humbly picks up the same threads of inquiry that did Cohen, asking the big questions about love, meaning and consciousness. Musically, Stardust triangulates between Hejira and Late for the Sky, finding connections between the purity of simple melody and the tangled modulations of jazz. Luka Kuplowsky makes a music of contemplation, a music alive to the everyday possibilities of epiphany and revelation, an unhurried music that moves with the gentle and curving rhythms of thought.

Sonny Falls is the songwriting project of Chicago DIY veteran Ryan “Hoagie Wesley” Ensley. Hoagie’s writing gives voice to a depleted notion of modern Americana saturated by fortuneless upbringing, tragic devotion, and the untold losses of the opioid epidemic. These themes recur honestly and without pretension in his writing; erected as dark windows into the soul of songs that nonetheless break glass to let the sunshine in. With a graceful balance of honest guitar rock and soulful self-expression, Sonny Falls is a special kind of timeless indie rock.
