Toronto&#8217;s Bernice have always been subject to their own distinct rhythms. Releasing their first album in 2011 then waiting seven years for the release of their sophomore LP, and another four until the release of their 2021 album Eau De Bonjourno, each release from the Robin Dann-led band feels like a missive from another world, and one that arrives precisely when it was supposed to, independent of any external pressures or expectations. Despite their periodic disappearances, Bernice&#8217;s albums have reliably provoked waves of startled excitement from both the press and their fellow musicians, with high praise coming from outlets like Pitchfork, NPR, Stereogum and the New York Times, and legendary artists like Beverly Glenn-Copeland, who described himself as &#8220;a down on my knees fan&#8221; of the band, saying &#8220;the vision is extraordinary and it&#8217;s musically so exciting.&#8221;
In April, Bernice released their fourth LP Cruisin&#8217; on Telephone Explosion Records.

U.S. Girls and Bernice Talk How to Tour With Twin Babies, and More

Wila Frank was raised on a farm in a rural bohemian community near the Oregon coast, where she formed a passion for classical and folk music. At 18, she moved to Nashville to record and tour with indie-folk duo Paper Wings and Civil Wars alum Joy Williams. Now 24, her debut album Black Cloud, out May 12 via Tone Tree Music, was inspired by artists like PJ Harvey and Anna Calvi just as much as the brooding soundscapes of Massive Attack and Radiohead. Though just eight tracks, the album is a resounding statement of intent, an introduction to a fully-formed voice and perspective that boasts a freewheeling ability to jump between genres and textures.

Monica Bellucci is currently starring in the comedy thriller <a href="https://bleeckerstreetmedia.com/mafia-mamma" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mafia Mamma</a>, opposite Toni Colette, out now in theaters. She recently starred with Guy Pearce and Liam Neeson in Memory. Over the course of her illustrious international career, she has made movies in France, Italy and Iran, as well as in Hollywood. Her many notable movies include L’Appartement (for which she was Cesar nominated), Brotherhood of the Wolf, Irreversible, Malena, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions and The Matrix Resurrections, The Passion of the Christ, Terry Gilliam’s The Brothers Grimm and the James Bond movie Spectre. Kyra Elise Gardner’s debut feature, the documentary <a href="https://www.screambox.com/details/1000000009739/Living-with-Chucky" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Living with Chucky</a>, is out now on the horror streaming service Screambox and all major digital platforms in the US and Canada. With a dad in special effects makeup, blood and guts became a normality for Kyra at a young age. Combat nursing was her first goal, but she soon discovered that real blood is way grosser than the fake stuff. She&#8217;s been pursuing a career in directing since attending Florida State&#8217;s film program and plans on creating quirky fantastical films from the lore of her unconventional childhood.

Melora Hardin stars opposite Dianna Agron in the forthcoming horror movie Clock, out April 28 on Hulu. She is best known for playing Jan Levinson on The Office and was Emmy nominated for her recurring role of Tammy Cashman on Transparent. She’s also recently starred in The Bold Type, had a recurring role on A Million Little Things and competed on Dancing With The Stars. Her film credits include Hannah Montana: The Movie, 17 Again, Thank You for Smoking, Absolute Power and 27 Dresses. She made her directorial debut in 2009 with the independent feature You, and also directed Paula Cole’s music video for the 20th anniversary of “Where Have All The Cowboys Gone” and a 2019 episode of The Bold Type that was nominated for a 2020 Women’s Image Award. Alison Star Locke moved a lot as a kid with her single mother, growing up mainly in San Antonio and Oakland. She earned a B.F.A. in Filmic Writing from USC, where she won the Jack Nicholson Screenwriting Award. She began her writing career as a story producer for reality TV and has written, directed and produced numerous shorts. Her favorite, Shhhhhhh&#8230;, was laureled-up by the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Denver Film Festival. Her script The Projectionist won second place at Slamdance in the Horror/Thriller category. Her scripts have placed in numerous contests, including the BloodList, Nicholls, Screamfest, Women in Horror Film Festival, Scriptapalooza and Fright Night. After staying home to advocate and care for her daughter, Bethany, who was diagnosed with autism, she returned to work this year to make The Apology, her first feature as a writer-director, starring Anna Gunn, Linus Roache and Janeane Garofalo. She lives with her husband and daughter in the Los Angeles area.

On Bad Sisters: Fighting Back Against Being Smaller and Quieter

Herbert James Winterstern&#8216;s debut feature, the drama thriller Supercell, starring Daniel Diemer, Skeet Ulrich, Anne Heche and Alec Baldwin, is out now in theaters, on digital and on demand through Saban Films. Jamie did his MFA and BA at USC film school, where he Jamie was awarded the Thomas B. Bush Memorial Scholarship for excellence in cinematography and directing. Upon graduation, he went on to direct, edit and produce the primetime drama series Siberia for NBC. In 2015, he created Swipemarket, a creative agency focused on bringing a more cinematic approach to big tech corporate marketing. He has directed and produced over 200 commercials for brands including Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Intel. Kelly Jenrette, a native of Atlanta, now resides in Los Angeles with her husband, Melvin Jackson Jr. In 2018, she and her husband became the first African American married couple to be nominated for Emmy’s® in the same year. Kelly’s Emmy® nomination was for her portrayal of Annie in Season 2, Episode 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale. She currently stars on All American: Homecoming, the spinoff show for the CW&#8217;s hit show All American. Her two latest films can be found on Netflix: Uncorked and All Day and a Night; in the latter, Kelly stars alongside Jeffrey Wright and Ashton Sanders. Kelly is also in the second season of the hit anthology show Manhunt: Deadly Games, currently available on Netflix and as Winona on the Facebook Watch Original LIMETOWN. Kelly has also been a series regular on the Fox comedy Grandfathered, starring John Stamos and had recurring guest star roles on mixed•ish, Here and Now, Pitch and Graves. Tim Roth is an English actor and director who is currently starring in the coming-of-age drama Punch, out now in theaters through Dark Star Pictures. He made his debut in the 1982 film Made in Britain and a mere two years later was nominated for a BAFTA for his role as Myron in The Hit. Since then, he has been a regular cast member of several Quentin Tarantino films including the director’s directorial debut Reservoir Dogs, and later Pulp Fiction. His role as Archibald Cunningham in Rob Roy alongside Liam Neeson earned him a Best Supporting Role BAFTA, and both an Academy Award and Golden Globe nomination in the same category. He has worked with other notable directors such as Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola and Michael Haneke. He has been involved in global franchises such as Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk and Planet of the Apes. From 2009 to 2011, he held the role of Cal Lightman in the TV series Lie to Me.

Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Bradford Young is a cinematographer and visual artist. His recent film contributions include: Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us; Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award and a BAFTA for achievement in cinematography; Ron Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story; Ava DuVernay’s Selma, for which Bradford was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Cinematography in a Motion Picture; JC Chandor’s A Most Violent Year; David Lowery’s, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, and Andrew Dosunmu’s Mother of George, both of which won him Sundance U.S. Dramatic Competition Excellence in Cinematography awards (2013). Other films include Dee Rees’ Pariah, for which he won the 2011 Sundance U.S. Dramatic Competition Excellence in Cinematography award, Ava DuVernay’s Middle of Nowhere, Tina Mabry’s Mississippi Damned, Paola Mendoza’s Entre Nos and Andrew Dosunmu’s Restless City. Bradford is also co-founder and CEO of Tribe 7, a film optics company specializing in customizable lenses and color science for film production. Sophia Peer was born and raised in Flushing, Queens, where she began her career as filmmaker, directing her parents in scripted/doc hybrids before she knew that was even a thing. She was awarded the NY Foundation for the Arts &#8216;Made In NY&#8217; grant, a finalist for the ScreenCraft Film Fund, accepted into The Gotham’s Episodic Lab, and invited to Gotham Week, for <a href="https://slamdance2023.eventive.org/films/638ae6d0e1cb7c0055272358" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Who’s Annie?</a>, a series she’s creating, writing and directing which premieres at the Slamdance Film Festival on January 22. Sophia is currently pitching a series she’ll be directing, created in collaboration with Jigsaw Productions. After years of working on series for Nike, Super Deluxe, Nylon, Genius, and Pitchfork, Sophia is now also directing a surreal cooking show, Danny’s Food Corner, starring queer comedian Lily Marotta (Celebrity Book Club). Sophia’s work has been screened at the Whitney Museum of Art, Hauser &amp; Wirth, Abrons Art Center, the Giphy Film Festival, Anthology Film Archives, Contemporary Arts Center, The Queens Museum, Indie Memphis Film Festival, and MoMa.
