Neill Blomkamp’s new film as writer-director, the horror movie <a href="https://www.ifcfilms.com/films/demonic" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Demonic</a>, is out August 20 through IFC Midnight. He moved to Canada from his native South African at the age of 18, beginning his career as a visual effects artist in film and television. He is best known as the co-writer and director of District 9 (2009), Elysium (2013) and Chappie (2015). Since 2015 he has been developing experimental films for his independent company Oats Studios, including most notably, Rakka (2017), Firebase (2017) and Zygote (2017).

Best known for his portrayal of Walter “Flynn” White Jr. on Breaking Bad, RJ Mitte is an actor, advocate and philanthropist who has carved out his niche in Hollywood by breaking down stereotypes and changing people’s mindsets with his easy going demeanor and positive outlook. He currently stars in the inspirational wrestling drama Triumph, also Terrence Howard. At the age of three, Louisiana native Mitte was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, but that has never deterred his drive to succeed in television and film. A chance encounter with a casting director led to his move to Los Angeles and Mitte quickly landed roles on various shows such as Weeds, Vegas, Everybody Hates Chris and co-starred on ABC Family’s primetime hit show Switched at Birth, before being cast in his life-changing role on Breaking Bad. Mitte has since made his way to the big screen, starring in multiple indie films in the past few years, including Dixieland, starring in his first non-handicapped leading role, and Time Share, winner of Sundance Film Festival’s World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Screenwriting in 2018. Kodi Smit-McPhee currently stars in the sci-fi thriller 2067, which is available on digital and on demand through RLJE Films. Born in 1996 in Adelaide, Australia, Smit-McPhee started acting at the age of nine. He dropped out of high school in his first year to pursue acting and currently resides in Los Angeles as does his father Andy McPhee and sister Sianoa Smit-McPhee, who are also actors. Smit-McPhee is known for his roles in The Road, Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, X-Men: Apocalypse, and the lead role in the prehistoric film Alpha. His upcoming revenge Western The Power of Dog will be directed by Jane Campion and costars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons. Smit-McPhee is a master of emotion and is deeply entrenched in philosophy, freemasonry and creative artistic expression.

Takashi Miike’s latest film, the gonzo yakuza thriller <a href="https://www.wellgousa.com/films/first-love" target="_blank" rel="noopener">First Love</a>, is in theaters from September 27 through Well Go USA. Miike’s first films were made direct-to-video in the V-cinema system, which was a way for Japanese studios to develop young filmmakers without using big budgets. A fierce filmmaker, Miike immediately became known for his energetic style and began to explore new genres and accelerate his output. He has since directed more than 100 features between the late ’90s and 2019. In his work, Miike can be seen perverting the Yakusa Eiga (mafia genre), as well as the burlesque comedy (Yatterman), the intimate drama (Visitor Q), the Western (Sukiyaki Western Django), the horror film (One Missed Call), the manga adaptation (Crows Zero 1 and 2, Ichi The Killer, Terra Formars), Tokusatsu Japanese-style super hero movies (Zebraman) and the action genre (Dead or Alive 1, 2, 3). Miike expresses the &#8220;do it yourself&#8221; attitude of punk culture in his films. After being saluted by Quentin Tarantino, his 2000 film Audition became critically acclaimed in the West.
