When Bambi and Cole Browning started writing the songs that would be become Reptaliens’ 2017 debut LP, FM-2030, they had no intention of starting a band. Focusing at first on creating music and art on a purely personal level, the project soon took off when the duo brought on Julian Kowalski (guitar) and Tyler Verigin (drums) to form a live band. The four-piece swiftly delved into songwriting inspired by sci-fi art and literature, cult mentalities, and deep connections. The result was the band’s self-defined genre of “dreamwave,” which connected musical influences ranging from Gary Wilson-inspired jazzy lounge music, the warmth of Broadcast’s recording production, to Todd Rundgren’s outer space synth sounds.
After touring throughout most of 2017 and 2018 with STRFKR, Cults, and Of Montreal, the band returned home and went straight into renowned Portland studio Jackpot to record their sophomore LP, VALIS. Titled after the 1981 Philip K. Dick novel, VALIS was released via Captured Tracks in April 2019.

The Sci-Fi That Ignited My Brain

Eric Heisserer is a screenwriter and director living in Los Angeles. Since 2010, he has written scripts for a string of successful studio horror films, including A Nightmare on Elm Street, Final Destination 5, The Thing and this year&#8217;s Lights Out. In 2013, he wrote and directed Hours, which was one of the last films Paul Walker completed before his death. A published author, Heisserer’s books include the recent 150 Screenwriting Challenges and he has written several short stories for the anthology site <a href="http://www.mulhollandbooks.com/popcornfiction/" target="_blank">Popcorn Fiction</a>. His latest film, Arrival, directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker, is released tomorrow by Paramount.

How I Wrote Arrival (and What I Learned Doing It)

Adam Green is an award-winning writer, director, actor, and producer best known for horror films like 2010’s snowy thriller Frozen, the Hatchet franchise, 2015&#8217;s Digging Up the Marrow, and his sitcom Holliston, which is now in development on its third season. He&#8217;s also run his own production company, <a href="http://ariescope.com/" target="_blank">ArieScope Pictures</a>, for the past 17 years and every week creates original online series and short films for its website. His podcast (with fellow filmmaker and real-life best friend Joe Lynch) The Movie Crypt was ranked by Entertainment Weekly as one of the “Top 20 Podcasts To Listen To” in 2015. He’s looking for a white guy named Ja’Crispy and his favorite song is Senora Lanza’s “Shut Your Face, Grandma.”

Brea Grant is a filmmaker/actress best known for her roles on Heroes, Dexter, and Friday Night Lights. Her second feature as writer-director, the horror thriller <a href="https://www.12hourshiftfilm.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">12 Hour Shift</a>, is out October 2 in theaters and on demand through Magnet Releasing. Her first feature, Best Friends Forever, an apocalyptic road trip movie, premiered at Slamdance in 2013. In 2017, she became a producer on the Emmy-nominated LGBTQ series EastSiders, and in 2018, she wrote and directed an episode of the show. One month after 12 Hour Shift wrapped in Arkansas, Brea starred in the film Lucky, which she also wrote. It is directed by Natasha Kermani (Imitation Girl) and was set to premiere at SXSW 2020 before it was cancelled due to COVID-19. Brea has directed many shorts, including the award-winning Feminist 
Campfire Stories and Megan, 26. She has also directed television for the CW and 
writes comic books. She continues to act and recently was in Jeremy Gardner’s After 
Midnight and just completed shooting Jill Sixx’s The Stylist opposite Najarra 
Townsend.
