Rodney Ascher is a filmmaker known for working in the spaces between documentaries, collage, and genre films. His feature debut, Room 237, managed a theatrical release despite the fact that it was made on a home computer in his living room. Other projects include The Nightmare, Primal Screen, Haunted, Horrifying Sounds From Beyond the Grave, and as editor, Andy Kaufman’s posthumous (?) comedy album, Andy and His Grandmother. A Glitch in the Matrix, his latest, explores Simulation Theory and, knock on wood, will premiere later this year. Matthew Wilder wrote Paul Schrader&#8217;s Dog Eat Dog, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and just played at the Toronto International Film Festival. It opens in November. Looking Glass, a script co-written by Wilder, goes into production next month and stars Nicolas Cage, also the star of Dog Eat Dog. This fall Wilder will direct his second self-written feature, Morning Has Broken, starring Peter Bogdanovich and Lydia Hearst.

Danish writer-director Nicolas Winding Refn exploded onto the global cinema scene in 1996 with his debut feature, Pusher, which he followed up with Bleeder and Fear X, which he co-wrote with Hunert Selby, Jr. After completing the Pusher trilogy in 2004-2005, Refn returned to international prominence with Bronson, starring Tom Hardy, and Valhalla Rising. He reached a new career high in 2011 with the acclaimed Ryan Gosling thriller Drive, and reteamed with Gosling on Only God Forgives. His new film, The Neon Demon, is in theaters now.
